THANKS FOR A GREAT 1st MINI-MEET OF 2009-2010

Thanks to all our swimmers and volunteers at our 1st PCAC mini-meet of the season. The meet was highlighted by tremendous help from our parent and senior/high school swimmer volunteers, as well as numerous impressive swims by our young, talented swimmers. We can’t thank Gregory Cowhey enough for the tireless and often thankless job of coordinating this meet. Our great volunteer crew also included Peter McGoldrick (programs& registration), Joe Bonus (timing& computer system), Steve Hirshberg (touch pads& timing system), Toni Barber (prizes and ribbons), Christi Tiano, Jane Hirshberg, Carol Cowhey (concessions), Allen Garner, Tracy Newman, Caroline Masters (safety), Joe Abruzzo (head timer), Brian Shaffer, Amy Warr, Fran Garvey, John Curry (timers), and Tom Wood, and Pallev Mehta (runners). We also need to thank Rob Schailey (Starter), Larry Schwarz (referee), Eva Boratto, Bob Burns, Scott Lakernick (stroke& turn), and Stephanie Rozick (meet director), our MA officials, who did a great job for us. And we would be truly remiss if we didn’t thank our Senior/ high swimmers, who were once mini swimmers themselves, and did an awesome job volunteering their time to show our younger swimmers how to give back to your sport and program. As a staff we still feel like we are ironing out some kinks, but we couldn’t ask anything more from our parent and senior swimmer volunteers. Thanks to all for making our 1st mini-meet of the season a tremendous success.

Thanks,
The PCAC coaching staff

EXCELLENT PCAC PERFORMANCES AT SUMMER ZONES

On August 12-15th, three PCAC swimmers participated in the Eastern Zone Long Course Championships at Penn State. All did well, turning in personal best times, and helping their Mid-Atlantic Zone Team to a 2nd place finish overall, only 11 points behind the Virginia Zone Team. Everyone had a good time, and especially enjoyed the tradition of trading swim caps with the other zone teams at the conclusion of the meet.

GREAT SWIMS AT LAC SPEEDO CLASSIC

At the LAC Speedo Classic in Ephrata, PA July 10-12, there were a number of impressive swims by PCAC swimmers. A number of Senior swimmers participated and improved their comfort level as well as times, in the long course distance. There were also a number of younger swimmers that participated in their first long course meet and did a tremendous job. It was a long, but exciting meet, and we were very fortunate to hold off some bad weather.

The meet was highlighted for PCAC by a rash of Eastern Zone cut times. PCAC now has 4 age group swimmers that have qualified for the 2009 Eastern Zone meet at Penn State. Catie Skinner (Girls 14 & under 200 Ba), Gregory Brocato (Boys 12 & under 50 fr., 100 fr., 50 fly, 50 fly), Andrew Abruzzo (Boys 10& under 50 fly, 100 fly ), and Alex Boratto (Boys 10& under 50 fr.) have all qualified, and are looking to add events this upcoming weekend at J.O.’s. Congratulations to those swimmers, and all the PCAC swimmers that showed up and gave their best. Thank you to LAC for hosting such a fun meet! All meet results can be found on our results page.

THANKS JOSH, AARON, AND DAVE!

PCC Olympian Clinic

PCAC would like to thank world and Olympic champions Josh Davis, Aaron Piersol, and Dave Berkoff for coming out to the Philadelphia Cricket Club and training with us on Saturday June 13. We couldn’t have asked for better examples of how to train and conduct oneself as world champions than that of Josh, Aaron and Dave. It was a great experience for our swimmers as well as our coaching staff. Josh, Aaron and Dave have been conducting swim clinics all across the US and we were fortunate enough to swim with them before they instructed a clinic at the Philadelphia Cricket Club on June 13. It was a day that we know will never be forgotten by the swimmers and coaches of the Penn Charter Aquatic Club. So, to Josh, Aaron and Dave, on behalf of PCAC. Thank you!!

And a special congratulations to coach Kevin Berkoff for winning the 25 meter breaststroke swim-off, between high school, Olympic, and “Masters” swimmers (we won’t mention the blueseventy suit that was brandished)
